New Hampshire Insurance Department and National Association of Insurance Commissioners to Host Mental Health Parity Symposium

CONCORD, NH (December 5, 2024) – The New Hampshire Insurance Department (NHID) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Northeast Zone are set to host a first of its kind Mental Health Parity Symposium in Manchester, New Hampshire, from January 15 to 17, 2025. This groundbreaking event will unite state regulators from Washington, D.C., to Maine, to address critical issues and formulate strategies to enhance the enforcement of mental health parity laws.

The symposium will feature robust sessions focused on evaluating compliance with Quantitative Treatment Limits, exploring Non-Quantitative Treatment Limitations such as provider reimbursement practices, and analyzing recent federal updates and their implications for state enforcement efforts. Participants will engage in comparative analyses, delve into advanced techniques to improve quality, and tackle challenges related to prescription drug coverage and mental health parity.

“Mental health is an essential component of overall well-being, and ensuring equitable access to mental health care is paramount for Granite Staters, and it is my top priority as commissioner,” said Commissioner DJ Bettencourt. “This symposium gathers some of the most experienced and innovative professionals in the nation, marking a vital step in our ongoing efforts to promote mental health parity and enhance consumer protections. By collaborating with colleagues from across the region, we can share innovative solutions and ensure consistent enforcement of mental health parity standards.”

This event is the result of a successful proposal by the New Hampshire Insurance Department, which received unanimous approval for generous funding from the NAIC Northeast Zone. The NAIC, founded in 1871, comprises state insurance regulators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The organization serves as a vital forum for these regulators to collaborate, share best practices, and develop model regulations and standards for the insurance industry.
